Oval Baking Dishes
Oval casserole and oven dishes made of porcelain are designed for serving portions of baked or gratinated food. From the oven directly to the table is the special feature of many Mediterranean dishes. So we know oval baking dishes especially as lasagne dishes, gratin dishes, rigatoni dishes, Kritharaki dishes, Bougourdiform and many more.
In contrast to the rectangular casserole dishes, the oval oven dishes have at first sight considerable disadvantages, because their shape in the oven gives away a lot of space during preparation. Of course also in serving counters and ultimately in the refrigerator. But the oval forms are not intended for the same purpose as their angular colleagues! Originally conceived as a pure portion preparation and serving dish, the oval oven shape has also established itself on tables, primarily in the household.
Usually, the classic dining table has an average width of 80 cm and accommodates opposing catering participants. If 27 food plates are laid, there is still about 14 - 16 cm between them. The large oval casserole dishes, from 26 cm upwards, can be positioned much better between the places than angular oven dishes and provide enough space at their sides to eat.
