Cay Turkish tea
The small porcelain tea cup is named "Cay" because its form is dedicated to the Ottoman national beverage, "Cay Tea", which has even been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage since 2022. Its popularity extends well beyond Turkey and covers many countries in the Black Sea region and the Near East.
In its home countries, Cay is predominantly consumed from tea glasses. Depending on the origin and locale, the glass vessels often show visible residues and deposits of tea compounds and fats that do not necessarily meet Western European standards of cleanliness and hygiene. This inspired us to produce authentic, typical Cay tea cups in porcelain.
Many foreign specialties have been "Germanised" and adapted into our everyday life – for example, espresso, mocha, doner, gyros, pizza and many more are prepared or served differently in their countries of origin than here at home. In most cafés, bistros and bars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Cay Tea is not offered – which is a real loss in revenue given the number of Cay tea enthusiasts!
However, the Cay tea cup also serves the apple tea so popular with Turkish tourists. With these two tea varieties, the sales potential can be significantly increased with a minimal stock investment. Whether Cay tea lovers from the original regions also enjoy Cay porcelain tea cups in private is a matter of personal preference. Far more attractive than glass tea cups – and above all, more practical – are porcelain cups. Our Cay tea cup has a handle so you won’t burn your fingers when, as an inexperienced Cay tea drinker, you want to enjoy your hot beverage.
Complementing the porcelain Cay tea cup, we also produce a saucer and two melanges, with which one can create very unique tea variations and significantly enhance quality. You can find examples of serving and presentation below in this section.
True to the motto of Holst Porzellan, the Cay tea cup is, of course, affordably priced, solid in quality and simply Simple & Strong.
